San Francisco road closures this weekend, Friday October 9 and Saturday October 10, 2026, are shaped almost entirely by Fleet Week: Jefferson Street at Fisherman’s Wharf is shut from 6 a.m. Friday, the Presidio closes its main gates to cars at noon on Saturday, cable cars switch to buses for part of the afternoon and robotaxis are barred from picking up along the northern waterfront. Add the Chinatown Night Market, a Rod Wave concert and a Warriors game at Chase Center, the Double Ten parade on Grant Avenue and overnight freeway ramp closures, and the city has rarely asked drivers for more patience in a single weekend, according to the SFMTA and Presidio Trust advisories reviewed by SFNews.us.

The short version: if you are heading north of Lombard Street between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m., leave the car at home. Muni is adding buses on the 28, 49 and F lines, the Presidio GO shuttle runs free every 15 minutes on Saturday, and taxis and conventional rideshare remain the only door-to-door option close to the Marina. Below is every closure we could confirm, with times, the Muni lines affected and the alternatives that actually work.

Friday, October 9: what closes and when

Fisherman’s Wharf and the Parade of Ships

Jefferson Street between Hyde Street and its western end closes at 6 a.m. on Friday and stays shut until 10 p.m. on Sunday. That is the stretch beside Aquatic Park and the Hyde Street Pier, and it becomes the pedestrian spine of Fleet Week for three days. The Parade of Ships enters the Bay at around 11 a.m., and the air show runs from noon to 4 p.m. each day from Friday to Sunday, so crowds build from late morning rather than at lunchtime.

Muni is running extra service on Friday, Saturday and Sunday between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. F-line shuttle buses link Embarcadero Station with Fisherman’s Wharf, the 49 Van Ness/Mission adds buses between 11th and Mission and Van Ness and North Point, and the 28 19th Avenue runs a shortened route between Daly City BART and Van Ness and North Point. Taxi stands are set up at Beach and Hyde streets and at Pier 39.

North Beach: Powell Street shut all weekend

Powell Street between Columbus Avenue and Union Street has been closed since midnight on Thursday for the grand opening of Lillie Coit’s and reopens at 10 p.m. on Sunday. The 39 Coit, the small bus that climbs to Coit Tower, is affected throughout. If you are driving across North Beach, use Columbus Avenue and expect slower traffic on Stockton Street.

Chinatown Night Market

The Chinatown Night Market runs from 5:30 to 9 p.m. on Friday, but the street closures start much earlier, at 1 p.m., to let vendors set up. Grant Avenue is closed between California Street and Pacific Avenue, Commercial Street between Kearny Street and Grant Avenue, along with the intersection of the two. Everything reopens at 11:59 p.m. No Muni lines are rerouted, but Stockton Street and the Broadway Tunnel, where public works projects are already slowing traffic, will be busier than usual.

Rod Wave at Chase Center

Rod Wave plays Chase Center at 8 p.m. on Friday, with doors at 7 p.m. From two hours before the show to an hour after it starts, 16th Street and Warriors Way are closed between 3rd Street and Terry Francois Boulevard, and northbound 3rd Street between 16th Street and Warriors Way shuts from about 30 minutes before to 45 minutes after. Meters near the arena charge $13 an hour during large events. The 78X Arena Express shuttle runs from 16th Street BART, starting two and a half hours before the event.

Overnight freeway ramp closures

Caltrans is installing advance warning signs this week, with overnight ramp closures running until Saturday morning, roughly from 10 or 11 p.m. to 5 or 6 a.m. The ramps involved are the westbound I-80 off-ramp at 1st and Harrison streets, the northbound US-101 on-ramp at Cesar Chavez Street, the southbound US-101 off-ramps at Bayshore Boulevard and at Cesar Chavez and Potrero, and the northbound I-280 off-ramp at Cesar Chavez. Late-night drivers heading home from the Mission or Bayview should allow for a detour.

Saturday, October 10: the busiest day

Presidio gates close to cars at noon

From noon on Saturday, the Presidio closes its Arguello Boulevard, Presidio Boulevard, Lombard Street and Mason Street entrances to all cars, including rideshare and autonomous vehicles. Inside the park, Montgomery Street, Anza Street between Lincoln and Graham, Mason Street from Marina Boulevard and Halleck Street are also closed. Cars already in the park before noon can leave, but nothing gets in until the air show is over and roads reopen in the evening. Cyclists, Muni buses and the Presidio GO shuttle can use the roads throughout.

Parking near the Visitor Center, Presidio Tunnel Tops and Crissy Field costs $9 an hour or $45 for the day on Saturday and Sunday, and spaces are expected to fill early. The free Presidio GO Downtown shuttle runs every 15 minutes from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. from the Salesforce Transit Center and Embarcadero BART. Muni lines serving the park are the 28 (Golden Gate Bridge toll plaza), 29 (Baker Beach), 30 (Crissy Field), 43 (Presidio Tunnel Tops) and 45 (one block from the Lombard Gate).

F line and cable cars

On Saturday and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m., F-line streetcars turn back at Pier 39 in both directions and do not serve Jefferson and Powell, Jefferson and Taylor, Jones and Beach, Beach and Mason or Beach and Stockton. The nearest replacement stop is The Embarcadero and Bay Street. The Powell-Mason cable car runs normally from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, is replaced by buses from 3 to 5 p.m. and resumes at 5 p.m. After the show, an F-line bus shuttle leaves from a staging area on Powell Street between Beach and North Point from 4 to 7 p.m.

Tenderloin, Chinatown and the Mission

Larkin Street between Eddy and O’Farrell is closed from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. for the monthly shared roadway day, and the 19 Polk is rerouted. Grant Avenue between Pacific Avenue and Broadway closes from 1 to 5 p.m. for the Double Ten Celebration, which starts with a flag raising in St. Mary’s Square and continues with a parade. In the Mission, Cold Frisco Nights brings lowriders to Mission Street between Cesar Chavez and 22nd Street from 2 to 10 p.m.; there is no formal closure, but SFMTA warns of temporary detours and heavy traffic. The free Paseo Artístico art walk takes over Harrison Street between 23rd and 24th streets from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Warriors vs. Kings

The Warriors host the Sacramento Kings in a preseason game at Chase Center at 5:30 p.m., doors at 4 p.m. The same Mission Bay closures apply as on Friday, which means 16th Street and Warriors Way shut from 3:30 p.m. Anyone going from the air show to the game should take the T Third from Chinatown–Rose Pak Station rather than try to cross the city by car.

Robotaxis restricted on the waterfront

From Friday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., autonomous rideshare vehicles such as Waymo may drive through but cannot pick up or drop off along Lombard Street from Richardson Avenue to Van Ness, Van Ness Avenue from Lombard to Broadway, Bay Street from Leavenworth to The Embarcadero, The Embarcadero from North Point to Broadway and Hyde Street from Lombard to Greenwich, and they do not operate in the Presidio at all. Uber, Lyft and taxis are not restricted. We explain the background in our piece on why San Francisco geofenced Waymo for Fleet Week.

Expect northern San Francisco to gridlock for about an hour after each air show ends at 4 p.m. If you can, stay for dinner in the Marina or North Beach and travel after 6 p.m. Free Muni, including cable cars, applies to anyone in uniform or carrying a military ID until Monday. If you do drive, check our guides to San Francisco parking fines and the 72-hour rule and to reserving a parking space online.

Looking ahead: Sunday, Monday and next weekend

On Sunday, October 11, the Italian Heritage Parade starts at 12:30 p.m. at Jefferson and Powell streets, and closures on Powell, Stockton, Beach, North Point and Francisco streets begin at 7:30 a.m.; the Powell-Mason cable car is replaced by buses from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Union Street between Columbus Avenue and Stockton Street is closed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for a Ferrari car show. Our full weekend guide for October 10–11 covers the parade, ship tours and free museum day in detail.

Monday, October 12, is a holiday: Muni runs a weekend schedule and parking meters are enforced, but residential permit zones and general time limits are not. See what is open and closed on Columbus Day and Indigenous Peoples Day 2026. Next weekend is harder still for drivers: southbound US-101 is fully closed at the Hospital Curve between the 9th Street/Civic Center exit and Cesar Chavez Street from Friday, October 16, to Monday, October 19, and westbound I-80 closes between 4th Street and the US-101 interchange from the night of Friday, October 23, to Monday, October 26.
